The Vishnupad Temple is one of the most attractive destinations to visit in Gaya and also in the whole of Bihar. There come a large number of devotees to visit the temple everyday and seek the blessings. It is located in Gaya, 100 km away from the capital city of Bihar, Patna. The temple is on the banks of river Falgu and has the footprint of the Vishnu incised in a block of basalt. It is believed that the Lord Vishu killed Gyasur by placing foot on his chest.
The current architecture and the building of the temple were built by Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar, who was the ruler of Indore in 1787. To the southwest of this sacred temple, there is a Brahmanuji Hills that is built above the 1000 stone steps. Many other smaller temples are found here as well. The natives here and around also believe that the Lord Buddha meditated here for six years. There is also a gold flag and a couple of Kalash on the temple that always glitter.
The nearest airport to the temple is 7 Km away and it takes 17 mins to reach by a cab or taxi. The nearest Railway station is 13 km away from the temple to the south. The Vishnupad temple is well connected by road to many of the popular cites and places like Gaya, Patna, Varanasi, Calcutta etc.
The Vishnupad temple remains open every day, even on public holidays. Thus, there is a continuous flow of tourists and travelers all the time in the temple.
