Western India does have a long-dated history of 1000 years. The western part of India has grown in commerce and industries becoming a backbone of the economy for the country. Yet, there are also many historical sites of flourishing kingdoms present in the region. The presnt day western region constites of three major states. With Mumbai being the commercial capital of India, this Maharashtra city serves as an important transit point to travel to any area of the region. This large city also houses many bazaars and modern buildings, but there are also some historical tourist spots like the Elephanta caves near it. Mahabaleshwar is also an important destination for people in the area. It is a trekking location and also has many lakes and waterfalls adding more to its natural beauty.

Goa is the most visited tourist spot of the area known for the best beaches in the country. The smooth glistening sand, fresh seafood, and the coconut trees are a trademark found everywhere. Being under foreign rule, the culture of this place has been heavily influenced by them and thus it appears as an almost different place compared to the entire country. The Mediterranean atmosphere of the region makes it an important holiday spot. Finally comes the Gujarat state. Having India’s largest coastline, this state is known for its arid regions and industrialized cities. From the Rann of Kutch sheltering migratory birds to the Gir Forest providing a home to the Asiatic lions, there is plenty of wildlife found in this state. This state is also known as the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of our nation as he is popularly called and has many sites devoted to him. Even touring through the industrialized cities like Surat provide a memorable experience.
