The most prominent and popular state of the peninsular India is without a doubt the Maratha state of Maharashtra. The revolutionary Hindu political movement of the medieval India started from this very state and its embers even engulfed the British rule of the country. The state of Maharashtra is bordered by the Konkan coast of the Western Ghats in the west to the Deccan plateau in the east and from Madhya Pradesh in the north to Karnataka to the south. The state of Maharashtra is very prosperous for its multi-facial aspects of industrial belt, agricultural highs, natural abundance and modern lifestyle.

The capital city "Mumbai" of Maharashtra is popularly referred to as the “City of Dreams". The tourism of Maharashtra is very much staged by a series of different tourist spots. The Nagpur City and its surrounding region is quite special place for tourism. The Arabian Sea coastal line has a number of beaches for tourist activities. The hill stations on Western Ghats like Mahabaleshwar are a special mention for the state. The Pune City is a very gorgeous modern city but the Mumbai City is the actual heart of Maharashtra. There are mosques and stadiums and grand Ashtavinayak Temple in the city just takes the breath away. The off the coast Elephanta Island is also a great tourist spot. The Maratha culinary and the culture along with great accessibility make Maharashtra a goldmine of tourism. There are also numerous forts associated with the life of Shivaji Maharaj.
