Sindhudurg Tourism

Sindhudurg is one of the districts in the state of Maharastra in India. It derives its name from the Sindhudurg Fort built by Shivaji in the 16th century on a cliff of a rocky island just off the coast of Malvan. The Sindhudurg district has 37 forts of various kinds like the water fort, land fort and the hillock fort. Major part of the district is covered by dense forest which is home to various species of wildlife. The hill station at Amboli forms a major tourist destination. It is mostly visited in the monsoon to experience the lush green hill range in the surroundings and a waterfall. The Amboli forest is full of bio-diversity. The Sawantwadi Palace at the city of Sawantwadi is another tourist attraction in this district.

Sindhudurg is a coastal district which has a number of beaches to visit. Tarkali beach, Nivati beach and Achara beach are some of the beaches located in this district. Tarkali beach offers scuba diving for those interested in water adventures. There are numerous temples and religious shrine throughout the district. Sindhudurg is well connected by roads and trains with other major cities in the state. The nearest airports are at Belgaum, Dabolim and Ratnagiri.
