Achara Beach, Maharashtra

Achara Beach is a beautifully stretch of sand in the Malvan tehsil of the Sindhudurg district in the state of Maharashtra. Lying 24 kms North of Malvan, Achara Beach is accessible by road. One can even walk along the Tondavali beach to reach Achara. This 9 kms walk along the beach gives a unique experience to the visitors. Being an offbeat destination, the place is less crowded unlike other popular sea beaches. Achara Beach can be a perfect getaway for those who want to spend some days in solitude. The place has a geographic combination of astounding beauty of a sandy beach and the shallow blue water of the estuary.

The meandering course amidst the ‘Jamdool Island’ is an added attraction. Cruising in the sea near Achara Beach can give an opportunity to view variant types of birds during the migrating season. Indigenous bird like peacock can also be seen here. Dolphins can be easily sighted at the estuary. The main season for dolphin sighting is between October to February. The sea is calm at this time of the year. It is also safe to go in the sea during this time. It is considered to be the paradise for the one interested in taking sun bath and for the swimmers.

The main occupation of the locals is fishing. Fishing activities are carried out by the locals early in the morning and in the evening. They dwell in the neighbourhood of the Achara Beach. A 115 years old library near the Achara beach can be visited while going around the nearby places. It is advisable to bring personal vehicle to reach the place and moving around.
