Aurangabad Tourism

One of the most visited tourist sites of Maharashtra, Aurangabad is known for the large concentration of historical monuments located near its vicinity. The city has its own airport and railway station and it is also well connected by roads to other cities in the region. Not only does the city have important historical significance, but now it has emerged as a rapidly developing industrial city without losing its past culture and arts.

The most important locations for visiting are the Ajanta and Ellora Caves which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. During the 2nd century BCE, caves were carved out to built monasteries and various paintings were done on the walls which depicted the situation of the different religions – Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism during that era. Other famous structures include the Ghrineshwara Temple, Bibi ka Maqbara, Panchakki, Aurangabad Caves, Lonar and Pitalkhora. The cities of Daulatabad (formerly Devagiri) and Paithan are also visited for their spectacular fortress and handicraft. One can also tour various famous museums in the region like the Soneri Mahal, History Museum, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum. To see various wildlife, the Gautala Wildlife Sanctuary can be visited while a lot of flora and fauna can be seen in the Siddharth Garden, Jayakwadi Dam, and Dnyaneshwar Udyan.
