The Buddha statue is built in the middle of the Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad in the state of Telangana, India. One needs to hire a boat or motor boat to go from the shore to the statue. This status goes as tall as 72 feet and has a weight of 450 tons. This statue is said to have been carved by a single stone and it has taken some 2 years to complete. This is also a sacred pilgrimage. It has been sanctified by Dalai Lama when he visited India in 2006. This was the idea of the then Chief minister of Andhra Pradesh (unite with Telangana), Sri Late N. T. Rama Rao. This idea occurred to him when he visited New York and saw the Statue of Liberty. He wanted to build a statue which would represent our culture as well.
It was built under the Buddha Purnima Project which helped in contributing most of the fundings for the construction of the statue. This whole statue was built in a giant carriage. The Hussain Sagar Lake in the backdrop gives an aesthetic touch to the whole statue. There is a memorial garden in the main shore where the travellers need to buy their tickets for visiting the Buddha statue. The tickets are quite cheap and however, the ferry rides might be a little bit more costly than the entry fees. The best time to travel is during the winter season when the weather is comparatively good and suitable for roaming around and enjoying picnics. This is a famous spot for school excursions.
