Under the rule of Asaf Jav V, the Chowmahalla Palace was built between the years 1857-1869. The meaning of Chowmahalla is four 4 palaces. The Chowmahalla Palace of Hyderabad earlier covered a vast area of forty-five acres which is now reduced to twelve acres. This palace was built such that the Nizams can attend their guests & important visitors and also hold important functions.

The Chowmahalla Palace will take you back in the time of rich culture and heritage. The palace was commenced by Nizam Salabhat and completed by Nizam Afzar-ud-Dawla Bahadur. Beautifully built and decorated by fountains and the lush garden will leave you mesmerized. The main gate of the palace has a beautiful clock tower. One of the recent introductions is the nineteen incredible chandeliers. It is said that this palace is an imitation of the great Shah’s Palace in Tehran.

The hours of operation are from 10 am to 5 pm. The palace remains closed on Fridays and on public holidays. The entry charges for adults are INR 80 for Indians and INR 200 for foreigners. You can take photos and videos of the palace at a nominal charge of INR 50 & 100. The best time to visit the palace is between the months of October to March. In fact, one must attend the Annual Chowmahalla Music and Dance festival to witness the various dance forms in India.

The Chowmahalla palace is located right at the center of the city. Hence it is easily accessible to everyone. The nearest station to this palace is the Nampally Station. From the station, you can either take a taxi or an autorickshaw. Also, you can take the bus route to this palace.
