Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, Goa

Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is one of the most spiritual establishments in Goa. The stairs of this church has been constructed in a zigzag style which takes up to the prayer hall and the famous bell of this church. The bell of this church is considered as Goa’s second large bell after Se Cathedral’s bell. This bell was adopted from the St. Augustinian church after its fall. On December 8th church held a fair in the respect of Our Lady of the Immaculate. They provide special service on this day. The night view of the church is very beautiful because it is decorated with lights. The façade of the church is painted in white color, which enhances its spiritual value. This church is considered as one of the oldest in Goa. The Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is built in Baroque style.

The outer structure of the church is supported by two towers and centerbelfry. One can see it from a great distance and hence it is called the ‘crown ‘of Panjim. The exterior of the church is not much decorated as other churches, but the simplicity of the architecture attracts the visitors. The main altar is dedicated to ‘Mother Mary’. Two other altars are carved and painted in golden color. These altars are in shape of Jesus’s Crucifixion and Our Lady of the Rosary. On the occasion of a festival dedicated to Our Lady of Immaculate church is decorated with blue and white flowers, which give an amazing look to the church. St. Francis Xavier’s Chapel has been built at the right side of the main altar. Statue of St. Francis Xavier has been kept inside this chapel in an enclosed glass case.

Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception of Goa open at 10:00 AM to 05:30 PM (Monday to Saturday) and during the Sundays church open at 11:00 AM to 05:30 PM
