The city of Udaipur has many forts, palaces and monuments but among them the most renowned is the is the City Palace of Udaipur, which is in reality a palace complex with many gardens, lakes, corridors, mazes, palaces, domes and others. The City Palace is quite famous and is a great spot for tourism and filming. The James Bond film Octopussy is a famous venture in the palace.
The palace has been in the city for about 400 years and was founded under the reign of Sisodia Rajput Clan King Maharana Udai Singh II who shifted the governance centre from Chittor Fort to Udaipur City Palace. Over the course of time till, date the descendents of Sisodias have built and renovated the palace many times and are still the owner & caretaker of the palace.
Situated on the eastern ridges of the Pichola Lake the City Palace is an artistic expression of architectural marvel built by mixing a part of Rajasthan, European and Mughal style. The vast palace is a conglomerate of delicate and subtle; works of granite & marble carvings, silver & inlay works, mural &paintings, chandeliers, raised gardens, decorative balconies, illusionist mirror works and many others to astonish the visitors. Some of the notable places inside the City Palace are Mor Chowk, Sheesh Mahal, Badi Mahal, Krishna Vilas, Tripolia Gate and so on. A part of the City Palace of Udaipur is now a residential hotel & resort, where visitors can relive the feel of Rajput aristocracy during vacation.
