Kali Bari Temple, Himachal Pradesh

Kali Bari Temple in Shimla in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India is an ancient temple in the midst of the Himalayan range. It lies in close proximity to the Shimla City Mall. The temple is dedicated to a powerful Hindu Goddess, Kali. The city of Shimla was named after the deity who is also known as Shyamala (Kali). Large number of devotees visits the shrine everyday to pay their homage to the principal deity, Goddess Kali. Many come to pray for power and strength from the Goddess to fight against issues they are facing and to stand strong during their sufferings. The idol of the Goddess is adorned with beautiful jewellery and colourful flowers.

The Kali Bari temple authority well maintains the temple and it is well facilitated for the convenience of the devotees. The serene and pristine ambience of the temple is perfect for meditation. ‘Navratri’ is the major festival celebrated surrounding the temple. It is held in the month of October – November. Thousands of pilgrims visit the Kali Bari Temple during this 9 days festival. The weather is also pleasant at this time of the year.

It is said that the ancient Kali Bari temple was originally built in the Jakhoo Hill in 1845. It was the British who removed the temple from there and settled it where it is presently situated. It is always advisable to witness the divine ‘aarti’ in the evening. All the devotees visiting immersed in chanting the holy verses by the priests of the Kali Bari temple. This captivating sight is an added attraction to the divinity of the place. It is truly a stunningly beautiful and a much revered temple.
