Nanda Devi Temple Nauti, Uttarakhand

The Nanda Devi Temple Nauti is thousands of years old where the deity of Goddess Nanda is placed and worshipped. Goddess Nanda is recognized as the daughter of ruler king Dakhsa Prajapati of this Himalayan mountainous region and the consort of Lord Shiva. According to faiths and beliefs, Goddess Nanda Devi was the form of Goddess Parvati or her sister. She is the main and foremost head of the god of both communities Garhwal and Kumaon of the state Uttarakhand. There is a famous festival is celebrated for three weeks once in every 12 years in the Chamoli and Garhwal district of Uttarakhand which is popularly known as Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra (or Mahakumbh). The Yatra is organized on the long path which almost takes 22 days for completion.

This sacred Yatra starts from Nanda Devi Temple of Nauti village of Chamoli district and ends in Roop Kund where thousands of skeletons can be seen. The local people say that the Goddess Nanda Devi went from the village to Nanda Devi Parbat in this time. Hence, there occur very heavy rainfall when the Yatra starts and it is said and feels like Goddess is crying. Goddess Nanda Devi was born in this Kumaon region. And thus, this Yatra is arranged in the memory of goddess Nanda Devi where all the members of society take part and Thakurs play Bhankauras and Bhramins take care of parasols.

There are many beliefs and faith to this sacred temple of Nanda Devi in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand where many people come from different parts of the country to worship and pray here.
