Our Lady of Angels Church, Puducherry

The busy city of Puducherry has many attractions to show, but if you're looking for something with an atmosphere more exotic than Chennai, then you might enjoy Our Lady of Angels Church. The towering towers of Our Lady of Angels, commonly known as the 'Kaps Kovil' - the Capuchins' Church, face the rising sun along the Bay of Bengal's coast. This is the Puducherry Union Territory's fourth oldest church. It is the only church in the city that has services in three languages: French, Tamil, and English. Parishioners gather at this historic landmark to worship during Holy Masses. It is famed for its traditional Indian architecture with exposed bricks and lime plaster walls bearing an ancient history. Visitors are often surprised by its unique mix of Gothic-style arched ceilings in some parts and South Indian design throughout others.

This is the Capuchins' third Church, completed in 1736 and aligned with the monastery's belfry, which may still be seen. The British attack in 1761 severely damaged it, and it was reconstructed around 1770. It was used as a meeting place for local French Revolution patriots from 1790 to 1793. It now serves as a boy's orphanage.
