Swaroop Sagar Lake, Rajasthan

Swaroop Sagar Lake is an artificial lake located in the city of Udaipur in the state of Rajasthan. Swaroop Sagar Lake is named after Maharana Swaroop Singh of Udaipur who constructed the lake during his reign in 1842 - 1861. It is also known as the Kumharia Talab which consists of the combined water body of the Fatehsagar Lake and Lake Pichola. Located on the North – West side of the city of Udaipur, this artificial lake was built to avoid water congestion and maintain the water levels of the two nearby lakes. The construction of the lake has helped to fulfil the water needs of the inhabitants of Udaipur. Udaipur Lake Conservation Society reported that the lakes of Udaipur help in recharging the ground water level, providing drinking water and water for industrial and agriculture use.

Dams have been constructed on the Swaroop Sagar Lake. During acute monsoon, the gates of the dam are opened one by one and water can be seen gushing out in the Lake overflow situation. The oozing water is taken to the nearby adjacent Fatehsagar Lake through a water channel. The place is well lit and is the best time to visit to see a spectacular view of the waterfalls from the dam. Beautiful gardens around the lake adorned this place which fascinates the travellers and onlookers. Visitors may also plan for a day picnic at this wonderful picturesque site. Lounges and restaurants adjacent to the lake can provide with a mouth-watering culinary journey. Swaroop Sagar Lake is well accessible by road. It can be reached from the city’s Chetak Circle by car, bus and rickshaws. Comfortable accommodation is also available near the lake.
