Built in the year 1929 by Rao Vijayrajji, Vijay Vilas Palace stands as one of the most celebrated and grandest tourist spots of Gujarat. This is established during the reign of the one of the most eminent Maharajos of Kutch - Maharjao Shri Khengarji III. This palace was built as a relaxing and peaceful summer resort for Maharjao’s son - Yuvraj Shri Vijayaraji. And thus, it is named as Vijay Vilas Palace. The magnificent architecture of this palace makes it more glorious, more attractive. It took 9 years to build the entire palace.
The entire palace is built of red sandstone, and it is magnificently built in Rajput style architecture. The central dome is the main dome. Apart from that it has Bengal domes at the sides, bastions at corners, carved stone ‘jalis’, beautiful coloured glass windows and extended porch. The balcony of the palace is enriched with a breathtaking view of the surrounding area and king’s tomb. The Vijay Vilas Palace is situated in the middle of well-laid precincts with systematically placed water channels and water fountains.
Another attraction of the beautiful place is a privately-owned beach beside the Vijay Vilas Palace. The royal family of Maharajo currently offers accommodation in a resort at the beachside. That particular resort is royally-designed that features colonial style wooden furniture, ultramodern restrooms and a patio to make the guests experience the grandeur of the place in the true sense. This place is one of the best places to experience tranquility in a royal way. Popular Hindi film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was shot in Vijay Vilas Palace.
The Vijay Vilas Palace is situated in a secluded area and sits approximately 8KM from the town of Mandvi. Many tourists often flock to the palace as the weather is quite pleasant throughout the year.
