Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple, Uttarakhand

Bhimeshwar Temple in Bhimtal is placed in Nainital district of Uttarakhand is a famous and ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Mahadev. It is estimated that the temple was built or renovated somewhere during near the 17th century by the Baz Bahadur. He was the King of the Chand dynasty. However, the legend and the myth seems to be in contradiction to this piece of information as it is said that the Bhimeshwar temple was actually built when Mahabali Bhima, one of the sons of the King Pandu, together known as Pandavas; had come to visit this place during the exile period of the Pandavas.

Another interesting aspect is that, the Bhimeshwar Mahadev temple being situated in Nainital district is actually much older than the place itself. There have been various inscriptions where the name of the temple has been mentioned as a stop for the travellers and an important place for worship. The architecture of the Bhimeshwar temple is quite simple and does not offer much variety or difference from the other temples of that period.

The best time to visit Bhimeshwar or Nainital is the summer and winter months. Though it tends to be snowing here during the winter but the view of a snow clad temple is something worth experiencing. The rainy season should be avoided at all costs as there are high chances of landslides in this region.
