Jwalpa Devi Temple, Uttarakhand

One of Uttarakhand’s most notable mandir’s, Jwalpa Devi Temple, is a well-known Shakti Peetha dedicated to the Goddess Jwalpa Devi. Located on the bank of Nawalika River (nayar) and thirty-four KM from Pauri, Jwalpa Devi temple stands as one of the most beautiful religious spots of Garhwal. According to the legends of the Skanda Purana, the daughter of the demon king Pulom – Sachi wanted to marry Indra. That’s why she worshiped Goddess Shakti in this temple. The Goddess appeared in front her in the form of Deeptimaan Jwalehwari and granted her wish to marry Devraj Indra.

According to the other belief, Adi Guru Shankaracharya once visited this temple and prayed. Being satisfied by his prayer and devotion, Devi appeared in front of him. Each year, lakhs of people flock to visit this temple, especially single and unmarried girls, as they believe they can get the best grooms through divine prayers.

Apart from that, every year during Navaratri’s, a special worship is offered and people from the farthest corners of the state come here to pray and get their wishes fulfilled by Devi. Dharmashala is available here for tourists and the nearest bus station is Satpuli, which is located 19 KM away from the Jwalpa Devi temple.
