Lonar Lake, Maharashtra

Lonar Lake, is a lake that was created as a result of an asteroid collision in Lonar, Buldhana District in Maharashtra. It is one of the most famous tourist destination sites in Maharashtra where a variety of minerals were found in the lake.

There are only four hyper-velocity impact craters in the world, one being the Lonar Lake and the rest three are located in southern Brazil. Many geologists from various research centers across the globe have conducted their research on this lake and found several minerals in the same. Some minerals even matched with the minerals found on the moon.

Apart from the scientific attraction, this site is also a famous tourist destination site where people from various states and countries come to see the Lonar Crater. There are several other attraction sites present within the vicinity of the Lonar Lake. Some of them include temples located near the lake, some of these temples have turned into ruins but the Daitya Sudan temple is being visited by several devotees over the years.

Daitya Sudan temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu which was built during the Chalukya dynasty. This temple was built during the 11th and 12th centuries and showcases the beauty of stone carvings and carved sculptures during the Chalukya period. This temple was built according to the Hemadpanthi architecture style (the SeunaYadavas period) where you can see the idol of Lord Surya, the god of the sun at the entrance. Due to the circular formation of the lake from the asteroid, many tourists have been visiting the lake while visiting the Daitya Sudan temple.
