Nishkalank Mahadev Temple, Gujarat

The Nishkalank Mahadev Temple is located in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat. The temple is believed to be built by the Pandavas, to wash away their sin after the Great War. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva’s deity is installed in the middle of the shrine, and stays intact once the water submerges.

The Nishkalank Mahadev Temple is located 2 KM away from the main land. It can only be accessed once the water level recedes during low tide. The temple itself is an architectural marvel, as it withstands so much pressure daily. The water completely submerges the temple, and can only be seen with the help of a tall flag which is posted on the top of the shrine. A famous fair is held every year in the month of Shravan. It is believed that Shiva appeared in Lingam avatar in the temple.

Even though the temple is open on all days, it can only be visited during certain times. The Nishkalank Mahadev temple however, never loses its charm as devotees wait patiently near the pond. The pond is situated near the shrine, and is used by the devotees to wash their legs. Even though the area is visited by the people quite often, the area is tranquilizing and peaceful. Devotees can meditate there, and are at par with divine spirit while staying connected to the temple premises.

The Nishkalank Mahadev temple’s area is itself situated 24 Km away from the city of Bhavnagar. Devotees flock to the temple during the full moon. During this time, the high and low tide are at maximum, thus giving the devotees a spectacular view of the nature.
