Zanskar valley is the best destination in Kargil. A monastery known as Mulbekh Monastery has a tall idol of about 9 meters of the Buddha. It is on the way to Leh. This rock idol also has some scriptures in the Kharoshti manuscript. So, this place has historical importance as it dates back from the 8th century. People also visit Drass war memorial which is for every patriotic Indian. The place is maintained by the Indian army which has war photographs and first-hand accounts of soldiers. 100 feet high flagpoles are the highlight of this place. Visit Sandstone wall also which has engraved names of the Indian army personnel who sacrificed their life in Kargil war.
