Kanchipuram Tourism

Kanchipuram is a city in Tamil Nadu which is well connected to road and railways. The nearest airport is in Chennai. The city has historical importance as there are a number of historical monuments there. It was the capital of the Pallavas, the Cholas and the kings of Vijayanagara. So, this city was developed in times of different dynasties. The city was once the education center for Jainism and Buddhism from the 1st to 5th centuries. According to the past, it is a tirtha (pilgrimage) place meant for spiritual enlightenment.

Kailasanathar Temple, Vaikunta/Varadarajan Perumal Temple, and Ekambareswarar Temple are the places of architectural heritage. It is a golden city with thousands of Hindu temples in and around. Idols of the god Vishnu and Shiva in stone are simply majestic. Explore the stone temples and caves which are pilgrim sites and centers. But keep in mind that there is a dress code to visit these temples. A man or a woman must be completely covered before entering the temple premises. Vendanthangal Bird Sanctuary is the abode of many bird species like bill storks, kingfisher, cormorant, etc. It is a must visit place for bird watching. Handwoven silk sarees are a must buy when in Kanchipuram.
