Tehri Garhwal Tourism

Tehri Garhwal is the largest district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Apart from the picturesque view of the Himalayas, it has a number of rivers crisscrossing and wide stretch of forest. New Tehri, the district headquarter is a well-planned town with a massive artificial lake known as Tehri lake and the remarkable Tehri Dam which makes it a major tourist attraction. Another notable town in this district is Devaprayag. This town with a lot of spiritual significance is located at the confluence (prayag) of Alakananda and Bhagirathi. It has an ancient temple of Raghunathji which is visited by many pilgrims.

Dhanaulti with its wide range of flora–fauna and spectacular view of the snow-capped mountains gives its tourist a chance to spend a vacation amidst peace and tranquillity. The most visited temples in the Tehri Garhwal district are the Kunjapuri and Surkanda temples which are also one of the Shaktipeethas. Apart from the religious significance, the panoramic view of the beautiful Garhwal Himalayan peaks and the nearby valleys can be witnessed from these places. Khatling glacier, Panwali Kantha and Nagtibba are some the popular trekking trails in this district. Tehri district also offers a number of adventure sports like river rafting, beach camping, jungle treks, paragliding and many more.
