Varanasi Tourism

Known by various names like Kashi and Benaras, Varanasi is considered to be one of the holiest places of Hinduism. It is an important city of Uttar Pradesh and is well connected to other cities through both roads, rail and air network. Varanasi has an important cultural, religious and historical importance. It is a site where Hinduism, its literature and principles have always flourished. It is also here that Gautama Buddha founded Buddhism when he gave his first sermon nearby at Sarnath.

There are many holy places here which have a deep history attached to them. Varanasi is also known for its Ghats. Built by different kings at different times, these Ghats are the real beauty that catches the eyes of everybody, including Bollywood and Hollywood cameramen. Some of the famous Ghats are the Manikarnika Ghat, Dashashwamedh Ghat, Assi Ghat, Harishchandra Ghat and the Munshi Ghat situated on the banks of the Ganga River. This city also serves as an important educational hub as it comprises of the Banaras Hindu University which attracts students from all over the country. It also has many famous temples like the Vishwanath, Durga and the Tulsi Manas temples. Religious structures like the Alamgir Mosque and St. Thomas Church are also famous. Various other places like the Jantar Mantar, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Ramnagar Fort, and the Bharat Kala Bhavan also attract a large number of tourists.
